Fun
at Main Beach Park
Main Beach Park offers something for everyone -- surf, sand, shells, picnicking, putt, putt golf, bar/restaurant,
skate park, volleyball, and basketball.

Where is Main Beach Park? At the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and North
Fletcher Avenue in Fernandina Beach, Florida on Amelia Island...
People can enjoy
swimming and surfing at Amelia Island beaches from late April right through
September (with the average high temperature 87°), and sometimes into
October (average high temp is 80°). There are public restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables,
gazebos, playground, and a beach volleyball court. Across from Main Beach Park is a skate park and basketball courts. Main Beach Park offers a large, free parking
lot, and there's no charge to enter the beach.
Main Beach is the largest public beach park on Amelia Island
and the only one that offers an oceanfront bar/restaurant at a public beach
area with some recreation options. If
you pack your own picnic lunch, you can enjoy an inexpensive day at the
beach sunbathing, swimming, and playing.
During the summer months, life guards are on duty at Main Beach (as well as
at Peter’s Point Park, the other public beach with large free parking lot, restrooms,
and picnic tables, outdoor showers, located on the south-end of Amelia Island on South Fletcher).
However, Main Beach is the only public beach on Amelia Island offering other
entertainment in the way of concessions.
There's "Putt, Putt" miniature golf at Main Beach, open seasonally. You can also get a
bite to eat or a cocktail at the casual oceanfront restaurant/bar at Main Beach,
open year-round, offering an outdoor patio overlooking the
Atlantic Ocean, plus indoor seating.

For
those who have visited Amelia Island in the past, realize that the water
slide that was formerly located at Main Beach in Fernandina for decades, has
been removed. The city of Fernandina is looking into building another
water slide, but if it comes to fruition, it likely won't be until 2008 or
2009.
The Comfort Inn & Suites is the newest hotel on beautiful Amelia Island, opened in fall 2006, with Main Beach Park only about 50 yards away. Fort
Clinch State Park, a natural haven with over 1,200 acres features gorgeous,
empty beaches, fishing pier, hiking trails, civil-war era fort,
history tours, is also located right next door to the Comfort Inn & Suites.
With
its ideal location at Main Beach Park, there's plenty for
the kids to do within walking distance from the Comfort Inn & Suites,
with the new Skate Park for the kids,
basketball courts, and Main Beach amenities of putt putt miniature
golf (open seasonally), volleyball court, picnic areas,
and gazebos located on the oceanfront.

Another
public park, Seaside Park, has been developed on Amelia Island, providing public
beach access, paved parking lot, boardwalk, gazebos, and picnic tables
(but no public restrooms). The parking area at Seaside Park is much
smaller than Main Beach park. Seaside Park is located right next to an
Amelia Island landmark -- Slider's restaurant/grill/bar.
Slider's, open year-round, offers both inside and outdoor dining,
another place for a bite to eat and cocktails located oceanfront on Amelia
Island.
