A trip to local beaches can really be a fulfilling
experience, not just for the beachcombing, sunning, and water sports, but also
for unique sights. For example, you may glimpse horseback riders, especially on
the southend of the island.
Have you always wanted to ride horses on the
beach, but never got around to doing it? Amelia Island is one of the few
places in Florida where you can ride horses on the beach on the southend of the
island. (Actually, it's reportedly one of the few places on the entire east
coast that offers beach front horseback riding!)
If you're interested in getting in the saddle,
call Kelly Seahorse Ranch at (904)491-5166. The ranch requires children to be 4'6" or taller to ride, and there's a
230-pound weight limit for riders.
You can inquire about "saddling-up" by calling Kelly Seahorse Ranch or
go to their website, about horse rentals.
If you have your own horse, Peter's Point public
beach access on the south end of Amelia Island (off A1A), offers special parking
for horse trailers, so equestrians can access the beach with horses there.
