Amelia
Island has earned a wonderful reputation for its gorgeous and challenging
golf courses!
The largest golf resort is Amelia Island Plantation (AIP), with four 18-hole courses --
Oak Marsh, Ocean Links, Long Point, and Royal Amelia. AIP is the winner of many
awards, including Golf Magazine's "Gold Medal" (one of twelve best
golf resorts in the U.S.), and Links Magazine's "Best of the South"
award. Located on the south end of Amelia Island, Amelia Island Plantation's
courses provide seven oceanfront holes -- that's reportedly more oceanfront
holes than any other Florida golf resort. The golf courses are private,
but resort guests can book tee times.
Golf Club of Amelia, Summer Beach
-- Adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton
is the beautiful Golf Club of Amelia, an 18-hole course, part of the Summer Beach Resort,
at the Ritz-Carlton.
This course was designed by PGA Tour vets, Mark McCumber and Gene
Littler, and was home of the 1998 Senior PGA Liberty Mutual Tour event. Summer Beach
is a private course, but tee times are available to guests of the Ritz-Carlton
and Summer Beach Resort.
Fernandina Beach Golf Club -- The only
public course
on the island is the
Fernandina Beach Golf Club, offering 27 holes of golf. This public
course has been rated three and a half stars by Golf Digest,
making it amongst the best public courses in the country. The Fernandina Beach Golf Club has a driving range,
practice putting green, a stocked pro shop, plus a brand new clubhouse
with food and full bar.
Golf Club at North Hampton --
Located just off Amelia Island in Yulee, a short ten minute drive, is the
Golf Club at North Hampton. The
golf course is semi-private, offering memberships, but also open to the
public for play. The LandMar Group built this
Arnold Palmer-designed golf
course and clubhouse, and is in the process of building up to around 700 homes in
this residential community. The community likely will be completely built out within two years.
Amelia National Golf & Country Club
-- Tom Fazio signature golf course. Amelia National is the newest
golf course community in the Amelia Island area to offer new homes for
sale. The golf course itself
opened in the spring of 2006. This is a private golf country
club that will offer around 430 memberships to property owners in the
community. Home/lot packages typically start from the $300s-plus. When built out, there will be
around 749 homes in Amelia National.
Amelia Island is becoming a true
golfer's haven, offering many choices of championship-quality
courses. Not to mention Amelia's 13-miles of gorgeous beachfront,
resort amenities plus a quaint historic district of shops, restaurants and
bed & breakfasts reminiscent of the late 19th century period. And
conveniently located only 25 minutes from the Jacksonville International
airport.
