Amelia Island Area Golf Courses

Fernandina Beach Golf Club:  (904)277-7370, 2800 Bill Melton Road, off South Fletcher Avenue.  Designer:  Ed Matteson & Tommy Birdsong. Layout: 27 holes (three 9-hole courses). See Fernandina Beach City Golf Course web site.

Amelia Island Plantation Resort (AIP) 800-874-6878 -- the plantation has four golf courses:  Long Point, Oak Marsh, & Ocean Links, and their latest acquisition of Royal Amelia. Amelia Island Plantation is located on the south end of Amelia Island, off A1A. Website: AIP Championship Golf.  Winner of many awards, including Golf Magazine's "Gold Medal" as one of twelve best golf resorts in the U.S., and Links Magazine's "Best of the South" award. Ocean Links along with Long Point, reportedly provide seven oceanfront holes -- that's more oceanfront holes than any other Florida golf resort.

AIP -- Long Point:  (904)277-5908. Open to public with advance reservation & available to resort guests. Designer: Tom Fazio.  Layout: 18 holes, par-72.

AIP -- Amelia Links: (904)277-5907. Private.  Open to AIP members and resort guests only. Designer:  Pete Dye and Bobby Weed.  Layout: Oak Marsh has 18 holes, par-72. Ocean Links has 18 holes, par-70.

Royal Amelia Golf Links: (904)491-8500, 4477 Amelia Rd, off A1A, near the Amelia Island airport.  Designer: Tom Jackson.  Layout: 18 holes, par-72. Royal Amelia has Tif Eagle grass on the greens, reportedly the only course in the area to offer this, a "rare golfing experience."   The course offers both a beautiful setting plus many challenges to test your skill, and includes three holes which reportedly reflect a "Scottish links" course. Unlike other courses on the island, there aren't any homes built around the Royal Amelia course (as of spring 2006), so it's a very natural setting.  OWNERSHIP CHANGE: ROYAL AMELIA IS NOW OWNED BY THE AMELIA ISLAND PLANTATION.  Residential development may eventually come to Royal Amelia, however, with new ownership of the course.

Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach (Resort) (904)277-8015. The golf club is located on the south end of Amelia Island off Amelia Island Parkway, adjacent to the Ritz Carlton. Open to golf club members, Summer Beach resort guests, and guests of the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton).  Designer:  Mark McCumber and Gene Littler.  Layout: 18 holes, par-72.

Golf Club at North Hampton (904)491-1188, Fernandina Beach address (actually 9 miles from Amelia Island on A1A in Yulee). Entrance to this 740-acre golf course community is next to Winn Dixie Shopping Center (Lofton Square). Designer: Arnold Palmer signature course.  Layout: 18 holes, par-72. Semi-private club (memberships offered, but general public can also play.)  Website: Golf Club at North Hampton (You can request tee times online).

Amelia National Golf & Country Club -- Tom Fazio signature golf course. Amelia National is the newest golf course community in the Amelia Island area to offer new homes for sale. The golf course itself opened in the spring of 2006.  This is a private golf country club that will offer around 430 memberships to property owners in the community. In 2006, home/lot packages typically start from the $400s-plus. When completely built out, there will be around 749 homes in Amelia National.
